Vytas takes on new Head Referee & Assessor role.
07-Jan-2012
As part of our continued commitment to improve all aspects of the NIIHA, we are delighted to announce the appointment of a new head referee. Vytas Lukosevicius was approached by the league committee in early January to discuss his interest in taking on a new role in our organisation.
Following our mid-season review it was evident that great strides have been made this season in our referee panel and support structure. It was felt that in order to continue to move forward there was a necessity to appoint a "head referee" who did not currently play in the NIIHA and is not currently associated with any NIIHA club.
Most in the league will already know Vytas from playing against him in previous seasons, vytas was appointed to a head role earlier this season with the Irish Ice Hockey Association and has been focusing this year on the officiating side of the game.
Vytas is currently a level 3 IIHF qualified official, and is making his professional debut this evening Saturday 7th January when he will officiate as a linesman in an Elite Ice Hockey League game at the Odyssey Arena between the Belfast Giants and the Dundee Stars. He has been refereeing in both ice and inline hockey for 5 years, and is working towards obtaining higher level qualifications in the coming years.
Vytas' role in the NIIHA will not only be to officiate in league games, he is in charge of referee development which he will fulfil in a role of referee assessor.
We feel this appointment is another step forward for our league and expect all teams to welcome Vytas into his new role and trust he will be given the respect along with our current referees of all players.
